New Workspace

Scaffold a personal-canonical hybrid workspace. Employer source of truth never goes in git or personal RAG.

When to use

  • "New workspace for X" / "set up a project folder for this SOW".
  • Starting a personal or work-thinking design effort that needs a dump folder plus PKM node.

What you produce

  • AnyType pkm_project + Collection in the matching Space.
  • Folder under workspace.data_root (~/tool-chest-data/projects/<domain>/<slug>/).
  • Pointer-only wiki stub in knowledge/agent-wiki/wiki/projects/.
  • One audit-log row.

Procedure

  1. Collect inputs. Name, domain (personal | work | career), data_classification, optional topical tags.
  2. If domain or classification is unclear, ask.
  3. Tags: read topic-tags.json. Unknown or forbidden → ask.
  4. Map domain → Space via spaces.json. Resolve space_id with API-list-spaces by name. Never hardcode IDs.
  5. Approval gate. If the Space agent_write is approval (Work, Job Hunt), get explicit approval in this chat before any MCP write. never (Private) → refuse.
  6. Create filesystem + wiki stub first (no secrets, no dump body):
make workspace NAME="NAME" DOMAIN=DOMAIN CLASSIFICATION=CLASS [TAGS='tag1 tag2']

Note the printed folder and wiki paths. 5. Create AnyType objects (after approval if required): - Collection named after the project (or reuse if the user asked). - pkm_project with name, status exploration or active, data_classification, tags. - ⚠️ type_key: pkm_project, not project. 6. Re-run the CLI with --anytype-id if you want the README/stub updated, or patch anytype: pending in both files to the object id. 7. Audit log in ~/tool-chest-data/anytype-audit-log.md. Action: write. Rationale: new-workspace.

Anti-patterns

  • Don't create the dump folder inside this git repo.
  • Don't write SOW/employer source into the wiki stub.
  • Don't index projects/work/** or lab/** (see workspace.rag_deny_globs).
  • Don't skip the approval gate for Work or Job Hunt.

Compatibility

  • AnyType MCP for the PKM node. Filesystem half works without it.
  • Local-only.
